I am really attracted to pictures with a lot of emotion coming from the character, whether it’s body language or facial expressions. But I can never seem to put emotion into my art… maybe it’s just my style and it doesn’t suit it, but idk. Any tips? Or does mine have emotion at all? I can’t tell. OTL
Personal feelings on a certain matter. May offend people.
Thanks for the input for those of you who answered. I just wanted to see how others feel/think about it and whatnot. Oh and others are still welcome to answer it if you want…
In my opinion, art is all in the eyes of the ‘artist.’ There is the technical side of art with composition, lighting, anatomy, etc, which can make a piece of art look absolutely gorgeous, but it’s not always necessary. There is no right or wrong in art. Sure, some art might be significantly more visually appealing than others, but only on a technical level. All artists put some sort of effort into their work, whether it’s a sketch or super awesome 324234 hour project, and that’s what counts. I don’t think an artist has to necessarily enjoy their art or be satisfied with it (cause I know I’m not), but they love to draw and that’s all that matters. Skill comes with practice. Classes and lessons help, but you can really only learn by doing things yourself and experimenting. I feel like it’s more of the process of art that really makes something beautiful, which could also explain why so many of us get so pissed at people who copy/trace others’ work, because those people didn’t give their own effort/process to make it.
As for styles of art, I might not enjoy all types of art myself, but I do appreciate them and acknowledge them. I personally like anime style with a little bit of realism mixed in. I enjoy other styles, but I don’t draw them. Anime might be easier to draw than realism, but that’s because anime is more abstract/emotional/expressive and it doesn’t have to be anatomically correct. But in my opinion, anime is a lot harder to learn/perfect your style than realism. For realism you have life references and you can stop once you have all the details down, which may take a while since there is SO MUCH detail. But anime is like never ending. Your style is always changing and improving, whether you are influenced or experimenting. There is no set standard for anime and I think that’s what’s so fun about it. You have so much freedom to do whatever you want.
Anyways, yeah that’s my rant for today. No one has to agree with me, but I thought I’d throw that out there.
So I’ve been seeing a lot of things about what makes a good artist and anime isn’t really art blah blah. I was wondering, what you do guys consider to be good art? What makes a great artist?
